Today post is the last post about the Baltic Sea. Today it will be about three places that are worth visiting in the Pomerania area – Malbork, Grunwald and Będomin.
Malbork
This the biggest castle of the world was the capital city of Teutonic Knights country. I’ve been there twice (2016 and 2020) and I must say a lot changed when I went there for the second time. Oh and it’s a really huge castle so each time I went there I remember hurting feet the most! But well, it was always worth it. I won’t say more… Just check out these pictures and go there one day, honestly. You must see it to believe it!

People don’t always remember that it used to be so colorful in Middle Ages. Just like this!
Edit. I’m deleting a lot of pictures now, in 2024, but the one above I had to leave here because my dad is there… And here’s gone now…

There is the special room in the basement for amber treasures.

Here is the kitchen and the Teutonic Knights cookbook still exists, you know. You can taste their dishes in the castle restaurant. It was the time of the pandemic so I didn’t decide to go there but I think it’s a very interesting option. Though I heard that they din’t use too many herbs in Middle Ages… But I would have to taste it to confirm this rumor!

This dark corridor leading to something that we call a restroom today… A secret place… Yes, you can see that in Malbork too!
The most breathtaking place to me is… The castle chapel that was destroyed in half during the World War II… And it really shows. That’s why it feels emotional to be in such an old place. Place that survived centuries to end up like this…

This river is called Nogat. Just saying. And standing on that wooden bridge was scary (you could feel it moving). Just saying. But I had to go back there after four years to take a look and take a picture, you know!

Grunwald
This is the place of the largest European battle of Middle Ages – The Battle of Grunwald. It took place in 1410. It was one of episodes of the war between Teutonic Knights and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1409-1411. This event broke the power of the order.

Well… This is how it looks like today! It’s simply a field… of the battle… If you know what I mean!

There are also few monuments and this oval thing above shows the placement of armies.
And well, it was such a great battle, the biggest one in Middle Ages and somehow how too much was found there by archaeologists what it a little suspicious, I must say. What happened with all those killed soldiers and horses? All weapon was taken away? I don’t know, maybe… That’s why historians wonder today – was it really here? But well, I still recommend to see this place and those very few objects that were found there. What I’m showing in this post is just one side of the exposition.
Będomin
If you dream about seeing a Polish manor house from 18th century, then I can make your dreams come true! There is such a place in Będomin and it’s not just a random house… This is where the author of Polish anthem was born! And that’s why this is the Museum of the Polish Anthem…
Look at these photos now and try to tell me that it doesn’t look cozy!

At the end I must admit that I’m incredibly surprised that I finished this post in just two days! I thought I would be too busy for blogging but… Here I am!
Well, the next post won’t appear on Thursday but on Friday and it will be about Riverdale, of course.
Greetings!
