Well, it was a really long Saturday night! I came out at 6 P.M. and spent 5 hours sightseeing. When I got home, Eurovision Great Final was already going on and this way I stayed up until 2 A.M…. It was a long night but I felt so alive and today I’d like to show you places I went to. Also, you will see how some places looked like 100 years ago and how it is now.
The first place where I went to was the Museum of Praga (that’s one of districts of Warsaw where I was born). I’d visited this place last year but this time I wanted to see the temporary exposition about… trains. I live close to railway tracks so I really wanted to go, you know. This way I could learn more about train stations of my neighborhood… But not only!

This is how the railway station which is about two kilometers away from my place looked like at first. 19th century origin. This building was destroyed during the Great War.
And here is the new railway station which my dad remembers well. Now there is the modern shopping center in this place which was built when I was a little girl. The current railway tracks number is much smaller than it used to be because it doesn’t lead through the bridge to the Old Town anymore. I heard it may not exist at all in the future but we’ll see… It’s sad to see such old places like this disappear, I must say.
Also, there is Józef Piłsudski with daughters arriving to Warsaw from Vilnius in one of those pics. I wrote a post about the Marshal lately…
As I’ve already mentioned before I live near railway tracks. Honestly, I’d lived here for 5 years and trains don’t bother me at all because it’s really possible to get used to it. And trees and tight windows keep it quiet enough as well. And if you saw those green photos of window views on my Instagram… Well, it also looks nice! Here in this post is the latest photo that I’d taken yesterday. Keep reading and you’ll find it.
Which railway station looked the nicest in your opinion? Well, when it comes to me, I love 19th century stuff so I would love to see the reconstruction but let’s make it more modern!
Well how does this place look like these days, you wonder? Here is the answer:

And now the second such a place which is more important than other – East Station. That’s where I was starting my trips to Cracow last year, you know!
And this is how the East Station looks like nowadays:

Am I the only one who feels like it was prettier here 90 years ago…?

You won’t believe what I’ll tell you now… That’s my street! I mean this is how it looked like in 1955. And you can see how it looks like today below.

Those bushes you can see in the background… That’s where I live! Also, you can see downtown from here!

My area was also made of narrow-gauge railways. They disappeared before my birth. There are still few places in whole Poland where you can go for a ride and feel like time stopped and I must say I really recommend such an attraction.

It was the Long Night of Museums so I’m not surprised that I saw the opened garage and such cars!

This is the view from the terrace of the museum. The sun was setting and it felt as nice as it looks… Oh, and that’s a bazaar.

This is the second place where I went to. This is the Konopacki’s Palace. 19th century origin. And bellow you can see how it looks like to stand there on the balcony…

The last place is the secret prison that was based in basements in the pre-war building. Polish soldiers were kept there just after the end of the war but not only them… Well, lovely communistic times were just beginning….
People left signed after themselves… It was one of the saddest places where I went to, honestly… People are lost and God only knows where they are but walls witness and scream their names…
And the last photo is… me. I could’ve taken more pics but it was too shocking to just be there in that basement. And I was planning to go to the storm canal that was built in 19th century but after seeing the biggest queue that night… I decided to go home, you know. Eurovision was already on in the end!

So, that’s it. Tomorrow post will be about… Riverdale!
Greetings!
A.A.
