The latest episode of Riverdale is about racism in my opinion. It made me wonder – what if any European decided to move to USA nowadays. Would anyone from this part of the world be discriminated and not accepted by American community?
The definition of racism says that it’s “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized”. This is why I started to wonder – what if it was me? Imagine that I’m a Polish who wants to marry an American man and move to USA. Would I be accepted there? Or would I feel just like Reggie?
Honestly, this is the 7th season of Riverdale and it never came to my mind that Reggie could be different in any way. He was born there and that’s normal that America is a very multicultural country. Everybody should feel safe there so why it’s still a problem there? I mean the series is about 50s but not too much changed, right?
Well, if any European would feel like home in America, then why does it happen to Asians or black people? The definition says what it says… Reggie is in fact more American than I would ever be. We don’t chose where we are born or who our parents are so it’s really unfair and rude to judge by things we can’t change…
Let this post be this short so you could think it trough. Thank you.
The next post will be about my last year trip to Puławy and it will be out this weekend. It was the second time I went there and yes, this place inspired me to write Great Lady’s Diary – my 4th book which will come out hopefully in 2025.
Greetings!
A.A.
P.S. The definition racism as cited in Oxford Languages English dictionary.
