French Poetry, pt. 1

I realized lately that I started learning French exactly 11 years ago! It was the first grade of high school, I was 16… And now, after all these years, I will try to translate my poetry into French for the first time ever!

Today, I have the first French poem for you. It comes from my debut book ‘Once Upon a Time There Were Two Poetry Books…’. At first, the English version.

*

The Battlefield

It’s time to come alive

Like a phoenix

It’s time to rise today

Like a skyscraper

*

I… I had to compete

With traumas

I… I’ve been asleep

Way too long

*

It’s time to leave my

My shadow

I… I am coming

I… I am back today

*

Do you know how I translated this debut book title into French? ‘Il était deux volumes de poésie’. If you have any suggestions… Feel free to comment!

Now let me show you the French translation of this poem that I gave you above. It’s my first ever try, so don’t be so harsh in judging it!

*

Après la guerre

Il est temps de la résurrection

Comme le feu de phénix

It est temps de dominer

Comme le gratte-ciel

*

Je… Je devais combattre

Avec traumatismes

Je… J’étais endormi

Trop de temps

*

Il est temps de quitter

Mon ombre

Je… Je retourne

Maintenant

*

So, how do you like it? Let me know!

Well, I think I will give you more such posts at least once per month, and more updates on this translation will be appearing on Patreon.

That’s all for now. Until the next time!

Love, A.A.
