This Christmas break wasn’t too long (at least in Poland), but it was so fruitful when it comes to watching films and series… It means that I have a totally new list with recommendations for you today!
The King’s Man
It’s a prequel and the 3rd film from this series. I remember when it premiered in 2021, and I was waiting for it to be available to watch at home. It was the first firm I saw on the smart TV, so it will have a special place in my heart forever. Well, if you like action and stuff like James Bond, then I’m sure you’re gonna love this story. This firm is rather tragic and about honor, but first two are more comedy… You can watch it on Disney+ now (I saw it on Canal+).
The Buccaneers
This series was inspired by the book without an ending! I mean The Buccaneers by Edith Wharton. It was published in 1938. I heard that some people don’t like this series, and it’s compared to Bridgertons, but I must say that it’s not so bad! I quite enjoyed it. And if you only like 19th century stuff, then you gotta watch it too. It’s available on Apple TV+.
Loki
I have already mentioned this show previously, and now I had to come back to it because season 2 came out lately. I believe it’s quite philosophical and deep, and this season seemed a bit lighter but still very interesting. If you like unpredictable approach to mythology and stories based on comic books… Then you really need to see it! It’s available on Disney+.
Foundation
I have mentioned this series before because just like Loki – Season 2 feels so different than Season 1. It’s quite similar to Star Wars, but it’s more scientific, I guess… But honestly, I really recommend this series. It’s available on Apple TV+.
Star Wars
Well, it’s gonna be a little bit longer paragraph… This Christmas was all about Star Wars. I have seen six first parts before, but I finally saw parts VII, VIII, IX now. I mean… The whole family was watching! It was so cool (but VIII is my fav), but you realize how different, modern and sweeter this new trilogy is comparing it to the original trilogy from 70s/80s when you watch films IV, V, VI again just after that. Well, and it’s definitely good for all generations… My father was 16 when the first movie came out! In 2015 I was 17, so… That’s what I mean! But I’m not done yet. My father still wants to see again films I, II, III and all those additional series and films, you know! We’ve never seen them before… If you wonder where it’s all available… It’s Disney+!
Barbie
This movie was a hit in 2023, but it finally landed on HBO MAX in December… Well, I was really curious what all the fuss was about… And well, I must say it was deep, so real and though-provoking. Sometimes it’s ridiculously stupid, but it still makes sense somehow, you know… And I loved some of those dresses… If you wanna watch it and have your own opinion about it too… You really need to!
The Gilded Age
Another thing that I was watching hard this Christmas is The Gilded Age season 2. Well, it’s like The Buccaneers, but it’s smoother in language and action… It’s like Downton Abbey! In the end the same team created this show, you know… So, if you are a 19th century lover, you really need to watch it. It’s available on HBO MAX.
The Shepherd
This is the only Christmas movie I watched this year (or actually last year already!). It’s short, based on the book, magically moving, and you definitely need to watch it now or next Christmas if you like stuff about flying, pilots and John Travolta… You can find it on Disney+.
For All Mankind & Top Gun: Maverick
This last paragraph is about things that are yet to come this week. I started watching For All Mankind yesterday, and it looks interesting already now. It’s an alternative history and science fiction about the universe. I heard how it’s compered to The Martian… But I don’t know why yet… Well, it’s available on Apple TV+. The second movie is another hit, but I bought and brought it in a DVD format for my dad earlier today… I will let you know how it was in the next post about films and series! And yes, it’s about flying and pilots again.
So, that’s all today, but don’t be sad, my dear reader! I decided to come back next week with everyday posts. Monday – Friday. And the first post will be about The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon… Such dystopian books, you know!
I hope I encouraged you at least a bit to see anything and don’t hesitate to give me some titles as well.
Love, A.A.
