‘Autumn Variations’ by Ed Sheeran

I really like the title record, so I had to create the separate post about it. Honestly, after Equals it’s my second favorite by this artist! And I haven’t done this for a while now…

The Mathematics era ended and now it’s time for seasons! The first is the fall and it’s the second record over which Ed worked with Aaron Dessner. Its sound is similar to Subtract but it’s also totally different because it’s nothing personal this time. It’s the collation of 14 songs inspired by his friends’ stories. For everybody autumn means something different and this is what this record is about. Oh, and it’s the first album published through his own record label. Being independent all the way, right?

This is a record that isn’t promoted by any singles. It’s like the artist is giving his fans a choice – just listen what you want to! The same thing is saying the fact that the all songs were played live and recorded in fan’s houses. It’s like he doesn’t want to do anything for pop music now. He just wants to do it for himself, music and people. Nothing more matters for a man who has everything.

Let me live you the bonus version of the record for a listen now and then I will tell you few words about my favorite songs!

I love Magical because it’s a beautiful song that is probably the most positive because it’s about falling in love. It’s also simple but sometimes simplicity is a key.

Plastic Bag is one of best song from the record in my opinion. The sound reminds me of One Direction song that Ed wrote but it’s a total opposite, I suppose…

Blue is a sad and short song but I really like how poetic the lyrics is here. If you have a minute and willingness, you can check it out!

American Town is another best song. The melody, production, lyrics and the story… It all makes the perfect composition and it’s simply the best to me.

That’s On Me and Page (I’m a writer, let me remind you!) are a total opposite but I felt like I could relate and understand them both at the same time. It’s so amazing to me that Ed could put different people’s emotions in these songs because I can really feel them both. It honestly amazes me.

Midnight and Spring somehow makes me imagine colorful leaves falling and sun shining on them… It’s simply this gentle guitar sounds! Also, I guess that Spring Variations will be next! And his second album X was green, you know. Green like spring!

Punchline is made of genius ontro. It’s all that I can say about this track.

The Day I Was Born is a song that makes me so sad. Nobody should feel like this on their birthday, so be always nice, my dear readers. Especially to your friends!

Head > Heels is the last song and what I like about is… The choir. I have a history related to choirs, so I feel surprised and nostalgic when I hear such tracks.

So, I’m done! What songs do you like here the most? Don’t be shy, let me know!

Tomorrow post will be about historical fiction & alternative history. I promised, so this day had to come!

Love, A.A.
