What Is Worth Watching And What Is Not? Films & Series of 2022

Today I’m making the last written review and this way it’s the end of posts related to last year Season 2 on my YouTube channel. It’s going to be about Bridgertons, Riverdale, Fate: The Winx Saga, Stranger Things, Emma, Persuasion, Locke&Key, Cats, The Umbrella Academy, Only Murders In The Building, Elvis, House of the Dragon, Handmaid’s Tale, Witcher, Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman.

Bridgertons

This is the Netflix show made of two seasons by now but there will be definitely more (season 3&4 are confirmed and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is coming; it’s going to be a prequel of the series). It’s a romance based on books by Julia Quinn. It’s all about looking for husbands and wives but also about romances. What I like about the season 2 the most is the fact that it gets feministic, clever and just gets to be something more than just a romance genre. I absolutely love those pastel colors, views, dresses and stuff. I honestly love this sweet atmosphere…

Riverdale

I know that people stopped liking it but I still watch it and I won’t stop until the last episode comes out. This is a Netflix show based on comic books that is all about growing up and mystery. You never know what do expect! Later it shows the adult life of characters and I can’t help thinking that the same thing happened to Glee… There are 6 seasons and 7th will be the last. I’ve started watching it in 2017 because my dear Internet friend recommended it to me. We haven’t talked lately but this series is something I’m still watching and I must be nothing but grateful for the recommendation because it’s become one of my favs. I highly recommend seasons 1,4,6. But season 7 sounds promising as well… I’m thinking about starting reviewing each new episode on Thursdays starting on 30th March…

Fate: The Winx Saga

The Winx Club is something that little girls like me used to watch and buy magazines so no wonder that we dig Fate: The Winx Saga now when we grew up. This is a Netflix series about fairies attending to school and learning to control their magical powers. The Netflix series ends after the 2nd season and I find it kinda sad because I saw potential in it even though it wasn’t an absolute hit. Probably not all would get used to the different interpretations of some aspects… For example I wished those clothes were more fancy and those wings as well…

Stranger Things

Another hit series from Netflix. I started watching it few years ago and I watched three seasons quite at once then. Now there are four and probably everybody’s waiting for the last 5th season. It’s something between horror and science fiction and I don’t like violent parts so I simply don’t like the fact that it’s in half horror. But the science fiction part is intriguing with that idea of the upside down. When I was starting my adventure with this series, I thought it’s going to be a good material about aliens and I probably couldn’t be more wrong…

Emma

If you’re a fan of romanticism and you like Jane Austen’s books, then I have a great recommendation for you. I got Emma DVD for birthday some time ago. I was planning to go to the cinema in 2020 for my birthday but the pandemic had happened… Now I always recall all these things when I hear this title… Oh, and the spring… So, this is a great film that you just gotta watch if you like 19th century stuff.

Persuasion

The next film based on Jane Austen’s book Persuasion is available on Netflix. This is the last film that made me cry so you gotta watch it as well if you think you are romantic. It’s a tragedy with a happy ending btw!

Locke&Key

This is the mystery & fantasy series based on comic books. It’s all about the family of Lockes who got a Key House full of magical keys. It’s made of three seasons and you can watch the whole series on Netflix. Highly recommended.

Cats

I started watching this boring in my mother’s opinion musical some time ago and I’ve never finished watching it. That’s all that I can say about it.

The Umbrella Academy

This series in one of my favs. This is probably the craziest thing you can watch on Netflix. There are 3 seasons and the 4th will be the last. The best one is the season two in my opinion. I don’t like violence in it. And what the plot is about? It’s about superheroes trying to stop the would from ending. They travel in time and always something goes wrong…

Only Murders In The Building

I found this series on Disney+ and Selena Gomes plays one of main roles in it. If you liked Sherlock Holmes in a new modern version, then you will also love this true crime comedy. There are two season available by now and there is the 3rd one in the making. Can’t wait!

Elvis

A very well made musical that is about Elvis Presley’s life. Sometimes creators put real material to such biographical films so I was honestly wondering at some point if that’s the actor (Austin Butler) or real Elvis. I think this example shows how much work and heart was put in this film. It’s available on HBO MAX. Highly recommended.

House of the Dragon

I’ve never watched Game of Thrones and that’s a prequel. In my opinion it’s not a bad idea to watch prequels at first… The title dragon made me watch it because I was writing about dragons, romantic vision of Middle Ages and fantasy genre in my bachelor’s thesis. Also, the next novel of mine will be about dragons as well… So, in other words I’ve been looking for inspiration here. I think this series was interesting to watch and I can totally recommend it, even though I don’t like bloody scenes and sometimes it gets ugly… You can find it on HBO MAX.

Handmaid’s Tale

I’ve read the book during my literary studies because we were discussing it during one of Popular Literature classes that are a part of 5th year student’s plan. Then I watched the season 1 of this production. And there are 5 seasons and the 6th will the last. It goes so far from the book, that the author Margaret Atwood decided to write the second book to show how she sees the future in this dystopian world where women don’t have rights anymore and biology is all that matter. It’s a perfect series to be discourse subject so I totally recommend it. You can watch it on HBO MAX.

Witcher

Now I’d like to add a part that wasn’t even mentioned in the video version of this review. Next month I’m going back to working on my own fantasy book so I’ve been preparing myself reading many classic now examples of this genre. Witcher is a class Polish fantasy book series that I’m so happy to see being so popular these days and I can say I’m a lucky one who can read it in the original language version. I can’t even say when I heard about Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski because it feels like something always known. I only saw the season 1 of the Netflix series but I’ll be continuing watching in the nearest future. I’ve also almost finished reading all books… I highly recommend it all!

Don’t Worry Darling

As I mentioned in the video, I went to the cinema to watch this film. It’s not as bad as many reviewers accused it. Maybe the only problem is the fact that a woman directed it, who knows. In my opinion it’s something deeper than just a thriller. It’s about feminism, it’s about an utopia that turns into a dystopia. It’s well made, many great names and views. I recommend it and you can watch it on HBO MAX now.

My Policeman

This film is available on Amazon Prime and it’s about the world when the man had to have a wife, family and pretend that it’s how it supposed to be. If you were different, you could end up in jail. For me it was a strong film but probably needed for many people. Watch it if you like Harry Styles or if homosexuality is your thing.

So, that’s it. You can watch the video with this review now:

You can share your recommendations in comments. I would love to review stuff that you enjoyed watching too. Why not?

Tomorrow post will reveal what songs are hiding on my secret playlist. In other words… What am I listening to when nobody’s looking at me? What do I love to listen to in a secret? Literally, nobody knows that I listen to these tracks sometimes… Because I don’t wanna share… But tomorrow I will do an exception and I will share the whole secret playlist! Wow!

See ya tomorrow then!
