Can You Read Historical Books For Pleasure?

I’ve loved history since I was a kid. I remember how lovely it was for me to play in educational games related to history, reading historical books and listening to those history lessons at school. I definitely fell in love with history when I was still attending to the primary school…

So, no wonder that I also loved history during my Middle School days and later I chose this field to be one of my main subjects in high school… But it kinda ended then because I didn’t make it to the historical studies… Yes, I was brokenhearted!

But… My fate wanted me to study Polish Philology that was actually my 4th choice… I wasn’t happy about it at first but now, after five years, I must admit that I loved my studies anyway. Because it’s not only about language and literature but also about social media and… history! It’s impossible to learn about literature separating it from the historical time when it was written… And very often books would be incomprehensible without knowing what they were written about… So, literature, language & history are totally sisters!

I could still learn more about periods of time that are the most interesting to me during studies but now it’s over and I still try to learn more but this time completely on mu won. Lately I’ve been reading about Swedish dynasty ruling in Poland in 17th century and now I’m reading about European queens like Victoria, Elizabeth I, Maria Theresa, Catherine the Great and many more.

So, I do find pleasure in reading historical books. It started as a passion to learning about times long gone and now it turned into writing historical fiction… If you were reading my previous blog Great Lady’s Diary, then you know well what I mean!

How about you? Do you also love reading historical books? Popular science or academic papers? Honestly, it doesn’t make difference to me because some historians have a good readable style anyway…

Tomorrow I will get more philosophical than today because… I will be wondering how the soul sounds…

Until the next time then!
