Allysa Agnes is my pen name, and have you wondered what my real name is…? Well, you will find out reading this post! It will be about etymology, meaning, significance, and I will add few university memories to it! Yeah, it’s another Bloganuary inspired post.
At first let me explain one more time where my alias came from. But I did it twice already… On IG and on the podcast… In 2014 I created the name Allysa which come from Ally – one of my fav fictional characters, and it’s a short form from the name Alice or Allison. That’s also the name I chose on the confirmation… I mean Alice… Also, that’s what my alias means. Another part of my alias is first letters of my surname and name – S&A. In 2020 (probably) I dedicated to add my real name to it. And that’s why I’m Allysa Agnes now…
Yes, Agnes is the English version of my real name. In Polish my name is Agnieszka… Too tough, right? That’s why I decided to blog and write under the name Allysa Agnes. But you can find my real name on the cover of my books anyway, you know.
Agnes is a Greek name that appeared in Poland right with Christianity. My name means “pure, virgin, spotless”. Also, it can come from the Latin “lamb” as well. And I celebrate my Name Day on 20th April (Polish tradition called “Imieniny”; it used to be celebrated more than birthdays). It’s usually the first date after the birthday, and there are usually few days per year meant for the same name but for different Saint patrons.
I did such a research during my philological studies at first because it’s what we had to do… Also, that day I found out that my surname is a Polish version of the Lithuanian one… Oh, and it’s a noble surname… And it was my 22nd birthday when I found out… It was a birthday present prepared by fate that I will never forget…
And yes, such lessons teach us that one word truly can have a whole lotta history and can mean a lot…
Honestly, you don’t have to be a student studying language and literature to get interested in such things. I think it’s good to know, and I truly recommend to search for such answers. It will help you to understand who you and where you came from. I mean roots…
So, that’s all today. Tomorrow will bring the new podcast episode, and that’s what I will write about tomorrow!
Love, A.A.
