What To Watch…?

Today I got a post with 13 titles of films and series that I recommend to check out. Keep reading to see what you can find here!

Enola Holmes 2 directed by Harry Bradbeer is a really good film about the younger Sherlock Holmes’ sister – Enola. The main character is played by Millie Bobby Brown. It’s a fun movie full of action and mysteries that are known from Artur Conan Doyle books, but this story got a drop of something new since it’s all girl’s point of view. Also, these films are based on books by Nancy Springer. I haven’t read them yet, but I’m planning to do it in the nearest future! You can watch it on Netflix and yes, I believe that it’s even better than the first movie, and I heard there should be more to come!

Sweet Tooth is a series that you can also find on Netflix. It’s about a boy who is half a human and fawn. The birth of hybrids is related to the virus that almost killed all people on Earth. It reminds me of Covid-19 and the pandemic we’ve all just been through, but this series got such a fantasy twist and well, here we have the postapocalyptic world… There are two seasons and I think it’s a very nice, sweet, cute and interesting series. Totally recommended!

Where the Crawdads Sing is a movie directed by Olivia Newman and it’s based on novel by Delia Owens. It’s a crime kind of story, but the film feels like a ballad as well. It’s really good and I really recommend it. I watched it on HBO MAX and there is a book as I’ve already mentioned. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s on my list of books to read in the nearest future… Also, Taylor Swift song Carolina feels like folklore and it’s a perfect fit for this film, honestly. And I really love this song…

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a Netflix original series. It’s a spin-off/prequel of Bridgertons that is about Charlotte from Meklemburgia-Strelitz. It’s about the real queen, but it’s rather an alternative version of history like I was writing about it some time ago (and speaking on YT). There is also a book and it’s written by Shonda Rhimes & Julia Quinn. Also, Julia Quinn wrote the whole series of romance books that inspired this show. I haven’t read them, but I think I’d like to compare how much it is similar to the adaption one day… I simply find such things fascinating, you know!

The Crown is a series about queen Elizabeth II. I’ve started watching it few years ago, and seeing 5th season tasted differently since we all know now that this epoque is here no more. The last season is coming soon, and it’s kinda sad to see it ending, but I guess it’s just like a real life, if you know what I mean… It’s one of best series I’ve ever seen, and I totally recommend watching it. It’s on Netflix!

Downton Abbey is a series that I’ve been watching on HBO MAX. I love this series and unfortunately there is only one season waiting for me to discover… I’m really happy that another similar series was made by creators of it – The Gilded Age. Downton Abbey shows early years of 20th century and the slow ending of 19th century in Great Britain. Whereas The Gilded Age is about the best era of 19th century in USA. I honestly love both! It’s serious, funny and historically beautiful to me.

Emily in Paris is a series that you can find on Netflix. It’s a really good entertainer and series that you can watch to practice French and English. For me it’s simply a fun show and I love the fact that Emily works in an advertising agency. If I was lucky, I would have the same work but surprise! I’m a poet/writer running this blog/YT channel/podcast instead!

Foundation is my latest discovery which is simply SO GOOD. I found it on Apple TV+. It’s a very interesting, wise and well-made series about the empire that takes more than one planet, so it’s kinda like Star Wars, but it’s fresher and probably bigger. I mean the science is the most important here, and this is what people fight with, I guess… Check it out to find out what I mean! It’s really worth it!

Ragnarok is a Norwegian series based on Nordic Mythology. It’s like some kind of continuation of it, but it’s brought to the modern world. I honestly love this series because that’s all the point of view of the original culture. You can watch it on Netflix! There are three seasons, and I haven’t seen the last one yet, but I will definitely do it soon.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is a movie that I found on Amazon Prime Video. It’s about multiverse, and it’s totally crazy, but I really enjoyed watching it. If you like this kind of surprising fantasy comedy-drama stuff, then I’m sure that you’re gonna dig it too.

Thirteen Lives is another movie from Amazon Prime Video. I like such catastrophic films based on real stories… I mean this one’s about rescuing little boys and their coach from the cave Tham Luang, and it all really happened in 2018… I totally recommend this drama. It’s really moving, gripping and interesting…

The Fabelmans directed by Steven Spielberg is a movie in half autobiographical about the start in film industry as a director… Spielberg created the character of Sammy Fabelman to express how it felt to him when he was young… I watched it on Canal+ and I really recommend this movie! It makes us realized that you’re on your own, kid (Taylor Swift song; I had to quote it because it’s a perfect match, you know), but there is nothing to be afraid of if it’s something you love to do…

Ed Sheeran: The Sum Of It All is a very personal documentary about Ed’s life and it’s made of 4 episodes. I really like how it is divided into chapters like love or loss and I really recommend to watch it if you like his music. But if you’re simply into seeing how people like Ed creates new music… Then I totally recommend it as well. Here is a lot said about real stories that inspired Subtract, you know… And you can find it on Disney+!

So, I’m finally done! But I’m not done with the film/series type of posts yet because tomorrow post will be about The Witcher. But it will be about books by Andrzej Sapkowski as well…

Love, A.A.
