Ninth episode of Riverdale seems to be a good occasion to talk about… Being independent! But what does it mean? Well, Betty decided to be honest with herself and go her independent way when it comes to morality and mores while Veronica actually did the same thing but it’s more about business…
What I’m trying to say is that woman was not able to do things independently for many centuries (I talk about Western world). We had to do what men wanted us to do, we couldn’t have our needs and desires and we couldn’t be independent financially. The only thing that a woman was meant to do was being a wife and mother. It’s like we were schooled to be nothing more.
New episode shows the change that is so ordinary today but back then, Betty and Veronica were first of their feminist kind. I mean… It was actually the first sign of the second wave of feminism (scientists believe we live in the era of the 4th) that started in USA and Europe in 60s and lasted until 70s. What I’m trying to say this way? That the series Riverdale is so close to history and important issues. Again. It is not just an entertainment or fantasy or something that was meant to just shock spectators… It’s simply the truth spoken in an artistic way.
Also, talking of feminist independence…. Let me add that I’m an independently published author who is doing everything alone. This website is a proof and I’m just saying, you know!
The second matter that I want to mention is Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. I’ve obviously heard about this book but I’ve read another title during my studies… The problem is that I can’t recall the title but I remember I’ve never read a book like that… It was like an academic paper and you literally had to read everything because it was all one story and everything mattered there… Do you maybe know this book? Can you tell what the title of it was? I seriously can’t find it now! And when it comes to Lilita… It’s so nice to hear and see books that I personally know. It makes me feel like I belong to some secret club this way… I hope you know what I mean!
Alright, that’s all I can say today. The next post will come this Sunday and it will be about the sea. The Baltic Sea!
Greetings!
