My literary studies and finishing all those unfinished books of mine made me realize that I want to mix genres, go behind the lines that define genres and that’s not just a modern rebel idea but it’s also the refection of who I am – Polish with Lithuanian noble roots but there is a little bit of peasant in me too. So, I’m literally everything and so do my books.
Once Upon a Time There Were Two Poetry Books… is my debut poetry book made of two poetical volumes. One of them is romantic and the second one starts to be modern and experimental in the end. I write about the way it started evolving in the second essay that opens Student’s Notes (Opening Eyes). I also write there about experiences that inspired those poetry pieces. I remember I also wrote there that such a mix of genres is the sign of modern world and it’s the personal situation of many people, not just me.
Laura’s Diary – My Awesome Life is the first novel and I show there that the idea of mixing is even more seen in prose than poetry. It’s a Young Adult, romance, tragicomedy and a book with a little twist of crime and fantasy. The reason why I wanted to write this post is the fact that I use the term tragicomedy to describe the novel… Well, I simply love this term that put in one two drama genres – tragedy and comedy. The fact that Shakespearean plays inspired me made me want to add this term here too. Because I want to show this way that the idea of mixing comedy and tragic elements was born in Ancient Greece so it’s a very old concept. Also, I’ve read the poem from 18th century and it was described by this term as well. And it’s nothing new when in the title you can see the name of genre that is far from the content. It’s all the author’s choice and I wanted to do the same thing here.
My next two novels also will be like that. I mean Unknown Future – Your Destiny is the book that can be described as fantasy, romance and a story full of digressions. The 4th book is Great Lady’s Diary and if you were following me since 2020… Then you already know what kind of mix this historical fiction is… It’s a novel full of poetry but there is a one-act drama as well… And there is much more, definitely…
When it comes to Forest Tales… It’s just a short stories collection about 20th century wars but it may become something bigger as well… I started writing those 50 stories in 2021 so it’s been just 2 years while my two books that came out by now took me 11 and 9 years to finish… So, I definitely still have time to think this concept through, right?
The next post will appear next week and I will come back on Thursday. So, it will be about Riverdale, indeed!
Greetings!
