Today post is about films and series that I’ve seen last and this year by now. It’s thirteen titles in total! Have a good reading and I hope I will encourage you to watch any of these.
Loki
Loki is the series where Thor’s brother has a chance to be the main character. This series is not only a science fiction that comes from the Marvel universe but it’s also… Philosophical. And obviously, it’s based on Nordic Mythology. Highly recommended. And the second season is coming soon! It’s directed by Kate Herron but the series was created by Michael Waldron.
Batman
Batman is a character that probably doesn’t need any introduction… I saw this on HBO MAX last year when it just appeared back then, it was April 2022 probably… Cat-woman played by Zoe Kravitz met with so much love while the title Batman played by Robert Pattison didn’t see such a response. I’m actually surprised because I believe that he didn’t play badly there. Oh, and the film was made in such a way where it’s almost all the time dark, misty and the tension and mystery are hanging in the air all the time… I loved it! And the movie was directed by Matt Reeves.
Amsterdam
I wanted to see this film in cinema in the fall and I’m glad that I didn’t. It was interesting but gross sometimes and on the bigger screen I would have to close my eyes not to see it at all probably! And Taylor Swift’s character ends sadly there! But anyways, it was an interesting film where fiction meets history. And I like detective stories… It was directed by David O. Russell and many well known actors play there. I recommend it after all. And the title is about the city, yes.
The Greatest Showman
I was searching for this film, honestly. I heard a lot about it and I’ve even read about P.T. Barnum in 19th century Polish books. He was popular like that, it’s not a lie! Anyways, it’s an amazing musical where Zac Efron and Zendaya play. Actors who were starting their careers in Disney Channel… Just wow… I honestly loved this movie. And it’s just a debut film by Michael Gracey!
Black Panther
It’s a very interesting film about the fictional country in Africa called Wakanda. It’s really fascinating how tradition meets new technologies. And there is an actor (Martin Freeman) who played in Sherlock and Hobbit and his character’s name is Agent Ross. It was so nice to see him there, you know! And the film was directed by Ryan Coogler.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
It’s a very fresh movie. It’s also very sad and full of changes I wasn’t ready to see, to be honest. By the way, I found out that the actor who played Black Panther in the previous film died in 2020 (Chadwick Boseman). Anyways, it was an interesting film directed by Ryan Coogler just like the previous film. Recommended. And you can hear Rihanna’s Lift Me Up there.
Spider-Man: No Way Home
One of my favorite movies of all time. All Spider-Mans appear here and Doctor Strange. It’s directed by Jon Watts. And it’s spectacularly made. And the story is very interesting… I loved every minute of it. It’s highly recommended. It’s probably the first time where we can hear about Marvel multiverse by the way.
Doctor Strange
This film shows how this character was born. The title hero is played by Benedict Cumberbatch. And it’s directed by Scott Derrickson. It’s so good, you gotta see it if you haven’t yet.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
I love this title. And I really like this character as well. But unfortunately… I liked previous film more. And Spider Man 3 (2021) stays my favorite of all. Those special effects were absolutely breathe-taking and mind-blowing but I feel like you can see more of it in the Spider Man: No Way Home. It’s directed by Sam Raimi and it’s simply about the multiverse.
Avatar
Avatar came out in 2009 and it’s about conquerors & tribes relationship but it’s bigger because it’s a different planet. Oh and it’s a love story in more than one way… I was just 11 years old when it came out. I’ve seen few scenes of it and I wasn’t interested but now when I’m 25 I think I understand now why my dad was obsessed about it back then… He couldn’t stop watching it! Also, now I see why critics were saying that Don’t Worry, Darling directed by Olivia Wilde is nothing new… But I believe it’s still a good, worth watching film that is about something important and quite… feminist. Also, I watched Avatar after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It was an accident or universe wanted me to see it in such an order… I mean… Check out both films and use the comparative method while observing! You’ll be schocked what you find!
Avatar: The Deep Dive
This is a documentary about the creation of Avatar films. I found it so interesting and I’ve learned many interesting facts like it’s the same director who made Titanic… I mean James Cameron. And I think I will go to the cinema to see Avatar: The Way of Water next week… It simply made me need to stop waiting for it to appear on the streaming platform and watch it immediately on the bigger screen… I heard it will be played on 20th April in one of my fav cinemas… And it’s going to be my Name Day then… It’s such a Polish tradition!
Menu
This is a movie directed by Mark Mylod that had a premiere last year. I’ve seen about 40 minutes of it when I realized that black comedy is not my thing. But you can totally continue watching if you like it when the film about food & restaurants turns into the movie about death… I simply don’t want to see how it ends… I’m too sensitive for such things! Maybe one day I will try to continue watching it but I’m not sure about it right now…
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
This the continuation of Knives Out. I haven’t seen it yet but I will do it tomorrow. I’m sure it’s going to be amazing because I love detective stories and this kind of humor and cultural Easter eggs… I mean at least this is what the first film was about! And I heard about it during my Popular Literature classes last year… I’m definitely watching it… Oh, and Benoit Blanc is played by Daniel Craig and it’s directed by Rian Johnson.
So, that’s it. The next post is probably coming on 19th April and it’s going to be about the fantasy genres.
See ya then, dear readers!
