Today post is about Kaleidoscope Eyes by Sheppard. That’s the 3rd and latest record from the Australian band that is known thanks to such hits like Geronimo…
Sheppard is a band made of siblings George, Emma and Amy Sheppard (the name of the band is simply this trio’s surname) but when you see the band performing, there are also other musicians on the stage. This Indie band was founded in 2009 and since then this is how their discography looks like:
- Bombs Away (2015)
- Watching the Sky (2018)
- Kaleidoscope Eyes (2021)
Now you can check out the reviewing subject below and I will start writing the review in the meantime. You can read it while listening or when you’re done. Do it how you like it, you know… It’s called free will.
- How the title and cover are responding to each other and the content of the record?
To be honest… It’s hard for me to see connections… But I got used to this title and cover that I just don’t think about it at all. Today it feels like an obvious thing… And I really love it, you know! When it comes to the title & content, we can hear this phrase in the first song Die Young.
- What kind of genre is it?
I think it’s the safest to say that it’s just Indie music. Or just Pop. Or Indie-Pop… Choose what you like.
- What singles are promoting this record?
It was a very interesting marketing strategy and a challenge because there were actually 12 singles before the record came out… Die Young, Don’t Believe In Love, Somebody Like You, Come Back, Thank You, Symphony, Lazy Love, Catalina, Brand New, Animals, Solid Gold, Learning To Fly and M.I.A. The last song became a single after the release of the new record. I think my favs from this list are: Die Young, Come Back, Symphony, Catalina, Brand New, Animals, Solid Gold, Learning To Fly and M.I.A. I know, that’s a lot! And I love these songs for both – melodies/production & lyrics. Catalina may be surprising but I see potential in it anyway. I didn’t like it at first, the most of the song seemed boring but the more I listen to it, the more I like it now.
- What other songs can be called as favorites?
There are not too many new songs that appeared on Kaleidoscope Eyes but I really like the idea of extending two tracks with instrumental intros. I obviously talk about Kaleidoscope Eyes & Die Young and Midsommar & M.I.A.
- What score does this record deserve to get?
I think that’s 8/10. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time but I also feel like there are few things that could be done to improve it and make it 10/10.
- What songs from the record can be placed in Top 5?
My Top 5 looks like this now:
- Symphony
- Learning To Fly
- Die Young
- Come Back
- Brand New
Other songs that I gotta mention are: M.I.A., Catalina, Solid Gold, and Animals. How about you, my dear readers?
Today that’s all and tomorrow post will be about Carnival Row like always.
Greetings!
