I saw a very interesting and very inspiring exposition last Friday, and this little post will be about it. You will see 40 pics here and 10 more are posted on Instagram.
The motive of Arcadia is a part of culture (not only art but also literature) since Ancient times. This exposition from National Museum In Warsaw (Poland) is showing various realizations of what people imagined their happy place to look like… It starts in 16th/17th century and ends with examples of art from 20th/21st century.
Italy is the perfect place to give it a name of Arcadia… That’s all that I can say!
In 18th century people started having plain-air kind of parties, they were wearing fancy dresses, and some aristocrats created gardens which were the Arcadia coming alive…
Now it’s time to step into 19th century! It’s all about folklore, I guess! So, yeah, it’s a bit different sense of Arcadia than previously…
A bit of Italy and old great days of those aristocratic residences also came back in 19th century… So, yeah, nostalgia! But the ending of 19th century is a bit different again… And something exotic appears in this heaven!
The last part of it is 20th and 21st centuries. Pablo Picasso and the modern life, you know!
So, that’s all today. Another post is coming on Wednesday, and it will be about the new podcast episode. Yep!
Love, A.A.
