New episode of Riverdale is a perfect subject to discuss for a writer! The influence of books on people, horror as a genre and the process of writing – it’s what today post will be about.
As I’ve already said many times, I don’t like horrors but I love detective stories… When I was starting studying extended history at high school, our first lesson was about… Solving some mysteries! Our teacher told us later that learning history is just the same – it’s about looking for causes and consequences of historical events.
Horror and detective story may seem the same but the main difference is that crime stories don’t always need the crime to be described in a way full of violence. That’s why I don’t like horrors because they’re all about it, yeah…
When Riverdale started to look like a horror? It’s hard to say! At first it was quite delicate (it was just a suspense) and lately it’s become more bloody. That’s why I needed to talk about those genre differences at first. And yeah, new episode is a perfect occasion to do so.
It’s hard for me to say if showing crimes can lead to actual crimes… For so many people it’s just the way of spending free time and wanting to experience some thrill. But I guess it may be a problem when people stop to see borders between fiction and reality… So yeah, it can be a problem and it can be a real impulse to commit a crime for potential criminals. But assuming that it could be anyone is definitely harmful. If you saw the 5th episode of Riverdale, I’m sure you know what I mean.
The same thing with writing such things. The fact that someone wrote a horror story, doesn’t mean it’s real in any way for them. It’s just a fiction and harmless fantasy. It’s just a genre! And now we live in the world of freedom of speech… So, no writer was born with the zip on their mouth and every writer has a right to write whatever they want. While I’m pretty sure that Jughead will have some trouble in the next episode… Ah those 50s…
Ok, that’s all today. Tomorrow post will bring… More music!
Greetings!
AA
