The Review of ‘Ellington’ EP

Ellington Ratliff released his debut solo EP in 2021. Except being an independent artist he’s also known as a drummer and songwriter related to the band I mentioned earlier – R5. Sometimes he also plays drums for The Driver Era when they’re touring. That’s all you need to know about him. Now let me tell you more about the Ellington EP and songs that its made of.

EMP is a lead single about feeling empty when you think you have all you’ve actually wanted. It’s a very nice rock tune that didn’t get the recognition it deserves. I honestly love this song! It was the first solo song that came out and it was shocking to me to hear the drummer singing. Who would think that he has a very interesting voice, can sing low key and higher tones and it all sounds good and proper?

Sun To Rise is the second song that I love. There are two versions of it – the single version and the extended one. It’s definitely a rock song when it comes to the genre. And it’s about waiting for the sun to rise because darkness will disappear then. Darkness is sadness and all that is just… bad.

Two other songs are Band of Gold and Beauty is Terrifying. The first track is a break-up tune and the second one is about the situation when you realize that you must be careful when you see a pretty lady because… Beauty is Terrifying! Band of Gold is also interesting because the conversation from some movie is put in there. At least that’s how it sounds to me. These two songs get more independent musically than two previous ones because it gets harder to classify it. That’s why it’s the best to say that it’s just alternative rock.

How do you like these songs? Let me know!

That’s all today and this way R5 related posts are ending for now. Tomorrow I will start philosophizing a little… I mean I will be writing about some random matters like… What does it mean to win a competition?

Greetings!
